Safety on construction sites continues to be a challenge

High-rise buildings, power plants, roads, telecommunication networks and railway lines  have a great contribution to the economic growth of the country, while the construction industry is characterized by a number of specific features, such as unstable, temporary jobs or life-threatening work environment.

Despite the safety norms and legislative regulations, the statistics for injured and dead in the construction industry remains to be alarming. For example, as stated by the UK Health and Safety Executive, the number of fatalities in construction works in the country increased by 27% in 2018 compared to the previous year. The United States also  keeps up with the UK. As reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2017, 4,674 people working in the private sector of the United States died with 20.7% of them having been employed in the construction sector. In 2011-2015, 609 people died in the US in the road construction process. It should be noted that construction is referred to as the fatal industry in the city of New York, as the number of injured during the construction process is increasing annually. 671 people were injured in 2017, and 761 in 2018.

Construction sector is considered to be one of the largest employers in the world. Against the backdrop of economic development, the demand for real estate is increasing day to day along with expanding of construction scope, new technologies are being implemented, but the safety on construction sites continues to be a challenge.
